Our Executive Director

Dr. Gwynth Nelson, SCIII Executive Director

It is an honor to be a part of the South Carolina Historically Black Colleges and Universities Institutes of Innovation and Information. These seven Institutes are committed to promoting access to quality training and research that will assist both students and stakeholders in being ready to meet the demands of an ever-changing world.

The Institutes recognize that most industries spend thousands of dollars training new hires. Thus, the relationships these Institutes will tenure with the state’s businesses and industries through research, internships and other opportunities will help to minimize costs and produce a better prepared worker for the 21st century.

SCIII will provide opportunities in business, environmental science, technology, communication, transportation, health care, civility, rural development, teaching and nursing. As a result, the academic and personal growth opportunities will expand the capabilities of our state’s citizens and those businesses that employ them. The relationship that these schools will develop throughout the state, will help to ensure that SC remains one of the leading competitors in the nation.

I encourage both the HBCUs and the state’s businesses and industries to connect and create opportunities through seminars, webinars, summits and other means to support each other’s goals. I specifically encourage the Institutes to make known the innovative programs and services they offer as a means of bridging the gap among students, community and industry leaders.

Your support is most appreciated!

Gwynth R. Nelson, Ph.D.
