Commissioner Of Higher Education
Dr. Rusty Monhollon
President and Executive Director
South Carolina Commission on Higher Education
As the state agency responsible for coordinating postsecondary education in South Carolina, the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education strives to ensure quality, efficiency, accountability and accessibility across all sectors of the state’s higher education system. We are pleased to support the Institutes of Innovation and Information offered by the state’s seven Historically Black Colleges and Universities. These institutions offer programs and services that benefit everyone.
As the oversight entity of the General Assembly and as an advocate for higher education, we seek a balance between student and taxpayer interests, on the one hand, and institutional policies, aspirations and needs on the other. In this regard, we believe that it is important for colleges and universities to bridge relationships with businesses and industries as a means of supporting one another and ensuring that our students have experiential learning opportunities to enhance what they learn in the classroom. The Institutes of Innovation and Information will help to achieve this goal.
The CHE will assist the SCIII in its efforts by assisting with research and securing information to expand educational opportunities for all citizens of our state. We believe these investments will promote economic development, increase efficiency and quality across the entire higher education system, and ultimately benefit all South Carolinians.
